Goodbye Prague! It’s not you, it’s us….

Hello friends and first of all Happy New Year!

We are back to life after long and beautiful holidays with dear friends and after a week back in Romania.

Yesterday we were walking in Prague city center at night and both of us started noticing small details about the city that we somehow overlooked while living here and then it hit us – we never acted as tourists in this city.

A lot of people want to visit and a lot of people have done it already, so we decided to write a post as tribute to the city that has been our home for the last years. We hope this will help you decide to visit Prague, if you haven’t done so already.

We will try to keep it short although that’s difficult and write some personal tips of where to go, what to do when here including a few restaurants, cafes and places that we like.

1. Coffee :)

I know you wouldn’t expect us to start with this, but Prague has some unexpected coffee places. We will recommend 2, as they kept me happy a lot of mornings. First is mama coffee that has several shops around the city. Second one is a coffee place more of a summer breakfast heaven that you can only find on Facebook called Neustadt .

2. Restaurants (Vegetarians look away)

This is the hardest topic of them all. We could write pages and pages of the nice restaurants with great food and prices that we like going to, but in the end we will make a top 5 shortlist.

Lunch menu affordable and good quality food is Kofein . Family owned restaurant expect a slower service during lunch but trust us it will be worth the wait.

Burger places. Here we have 2 since Oana and Emil like one more then the other we can never make up our mind where to go and take turns. Both places are amazing so try them both: Peter’s burger and The Tavern.

Typical Czech cuisine we choose V Cipu for the great locations compared to affordable prices and U Voudoucha for the awesome beer and great shots made by an engineer :)

A lot of places got left out, but you can find much more on Trip Advisor :)

3. Places

Huh…we didn’t expect a post this size, but now that we started here goes:

Naplavka is the best place to see Prague in summer. It is a place by the river where people come to drink, dance, listen to free live music and most of all watch the river and the sun. You will find  lot of locals and expats that go there every night in summertime.

Lucerna is a easy to find in the heart of the city center. I has a nice concert hall, an old movie theater and one impressive uncommon piece of art that you will not miss when entering the arcade, we will let you enjoy the surprise.

Also while here spoil the kids in you with a trip to Petrin mirror maze for a fun afternoon after you take the funicular up to Petrin tower and observatory.

The zoo in Prague needs a full day, but try to visit on a sunny day since most of it is outside. And if there, be sure not to miss out on Troja palace just across the street.

4. Going out

For just chilling on a lazy Sunday afternoon in one of the best hidden central locations we recommend Containall, a container pub by the river where people go and feed the swans. Great view of Charles bridge and a lot of artistic workshops/ events.

Evening fun has a lot of tempting offers near the old town. Since our musical taste goes towards the Rock scene we would recommend Harleys and Vagon as the 2 pubs to dance your nights away.

Also if you love Jazz, Prague is the place to be from Jazz boat to a lot of live music pubs you will find a place where your love for jazz will be shared by young talented musicians.

Hope you will use some of the information we provided be sure not to miss out on the classic tourist musts like Charles Bridge, or the Prague Castle, we left them out on purpose thinking that there is no chance you will miss out on them.

So in the end, we want to say a big thanks to Prague and the great people that made us realize what a wonderful city we lived in!

Remember Prague – its not you, its us…. :-)
Cheers!
